Identifying damage to Vehicles caused by Wildlife

What is the nature of the damage?

Chipped Paint

  • Animals see their reflection in the paint and will sometimes peck at it.
  • Probably turkeys, or other fowl.

Gnawing

  • Gnawing is usually identified by the size of the gnaw marks
    • Mice=1 to 2 mm
    • Porcupine
    • Rabbits = 1/4-inch
    • Rats= 4 mm (Don't gnaw on smooth round items >7/8"/22mm in diamter)
    • Squirrels 
    • Voles = 1/16-inch

Nests

  • Nests are usually caused by mice or similar rodents.

Windshield Wipers

  • Yes, a number of birds love to peck at windshield wipers. Here is our list of known suspects. If you become aware of others please let us know.
    • Crows
    • Boat-tailed Grackle
    • Turkey vulture
